Nach 145 Jahren Angst und Schrecken wird der blut- rünstige Vampir Angelus 1898 mit einem Fluch belegt: Einer Seele. Fortan nennt er sich Angel und tut Büße für die Sünden seiner eigenen Vergangenheit. Im Jahr 1999 geht er nach Los Angeles, um sich auf seinen Kampf gegen das Böse zu konzentrieren.
Dort unterstützen ihn Cordelia, Wesley und Gunn in seiner Detektei namens "Angel Investigations". Später stößt auch die entführte Fred zur Truppe, und sogar Spike verirrt sich in Angels Terrain.
Inhalt
Angel findet, dass er Faith wieder auf den richtigen Weg bringen muss und nimmt sie bei sich auf. Doch auch Buffy ist nach L.A. gekommen und will nur eines: Rache! Faith soll dafür büßen was sie Buffy in Sunnydale angetan hat. Die Jägerin ist entsetzt ihre größte Feindin Faith in den armen von ihrem Ex-Lover Angel zu sehen. Das Ex-Liebespaar hat darauf einen (nicht nur verbalen!) Steit.

Buffy: You apologize to me, I will beat you to death.
Buffy: You hit me! Angel: Not to go all schoolyard on you, but you hit me first. Buffy: You hit me for her. Angel: You were about ten seconds away from beating her down. Buffy: I had a right to it!
Wesley: (after knocking out one of the operatives) That's for calling me a ponce!
Angel: Buffy, this wasn't about you. This was about saving somebody's soul. That's what I do here and you're not a part of it. Buffy: I have someone in my life now, that I love. It's not what you and I had, it's very new. You know what makes it new? I trust him, I know him. Angel: That's great, it's nice. You moved on, I can't; You found someone new. I'm not allowed to, remember? I see you again, it cuts me up inside, and the only person I share that with is me. You don't know me anymore, so don't come down here with your great new life and expect me to do things your way. Go home. Buffy: See? Faith wins again. Angel: [huskily] Go.
